Memorial Day 2011

This year was the first time we have attended a memorial event here in Weirton.  There's a special they built  just for the troops.  Names of those who are drafted in the military  in West Virginia  (not sure if it's for the whole  state or just for the city though) are listed on the wall.
Most of the  attendees are old people.  Hubby is sad to see that   most of the young ones doesn't even care  of what is going on with the troops.
A stolen shot taken by Ms. Burrito.
With our neighbor Don, he is an army veteran.
Don't be alarmed if Ms. Burrito's arm looked like dislocated lol, she tried to take a picture of us.  The second photo was taken by Mr. Burrito.
The old veterans in blue were the ones wo did the gun salute.
The ones in red shirts at the left corner are special children who  played the instruments.  There were boy scouts there too who were handing out free water.
These group of senior women  sung all the songs during the ceremony.
The gun salute..
Hubby and I  wants to instill in our Burritos young minds that it is  important to learn about the men and women in uniform.
They are proud that both their Pap and Dad are both veterans.

People do forget - if it isn't happening in a big way like WWII, less and less attention is paid, especially by younger people. It seems to be a long weekend of commerce I'm afraid...

I have two sisters who served in the USAF (E-5 and Captain), and a brother (E-7) also. My father was actually in the USAAF (US Army Air Forces until the USAF was created in 1947). We cannot salute those who served, and you can thank John for all of us for his USN service!

I find it sad also that young people do not come out to honor our fallen on Memorial Day. It seems as if soon there will be no one honoring them at all.
