My husband took a day off last week so we could attend the open house at our children's school. St. Joseph the Worker had celebrated the Catholic School Spirit Week and the open house was scheduled on the second day. I love attending Open Houses because we get to see how our kids interact with other children and teachers. It is also a great opportunity for not only parents but other relatives who wants to see the school, students, and school faculty and staff.
Here in the photos, my husband battled with our son in Mathematics. They did one division problem and I was very amazed that they finished at the same time. Parents and students battled it out and the children outdid the parents lol. My husband and I split ourselves in some subjects to see both of them . They wanted us to see certain presentations that they did for parents. We enjoyed our daughter's music and religion class.
It is great watching the kids having fun while learning.
Our kids love it when are around. They are now 10 and 11 but very much love us to watch what they do. I am glad they are that way because I read from several posts where kids doesn't want the parents around and that to me is sad.
Some of son's classmates were sick during the Open House so they were not there but his class is a small and I like it because the teacher can really give everyone of them an attention.
Our former neighbor who is a teacher at school, it was nice talking to her.
Despite our effort to attend to every class of our children, we somehow miss one part of our daughter's and she cried, I felt bad.
We made up with her, my husband attended all of hers after that and I go back and forth to her class and her brother's class.
We stayed at the school until the open house was over. Snacks, lunches, and beverages were served for the parents. My husband lost a turn on a game that parents and students participated to and as a consequence, he was asked to do what the teacher does. I thought he was a natural.
There is a tension going on at the school and we don't really know what it is. I don't like it one bit because my kids are very observant and they too can feel it. I hope that the Diocese and the SJS school would work together and solve whatever the issue is. As a parent, I want to be informed but unfortunately, they haven't let us know what is going on. I love how the principal of this school run things so it would be sad to see him let go by the Diocese. He invested 43 years of his life serving the school and that would be devastating if he will be forced to retire. I hope that whoever makes the decision would give him the chance to retire on his own terms. I know I would be devastated if I were him. I am praying for the best for the sake of the children, teachers, and staff of St. Joseph the Worker School.
What a fun open house! I like the Math battle between the students and their parents. Hopefully, the tension going on behind the scenes will soon be over. Looks like an amazing school.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard when there is tension at school! It seems it is that way in so many schools though because of how things are run. I'm sorry your daughter was sad :( It is hard fitting everything in, but you do your best! It does look like a good day for at least most of it!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like your husband had a good time. They don't do much in the way of open houses here (aside form back to school night) for safety reasons.
ReplyDeleteWe always attend all of our children open houses. They actually had them twice a year. Great to see what is happening in our children lives.
ReplyDeleteThat is great that you and your husband both could take off work for the Open House. The school I work at only has an open house before Thanksgiving, but offers other tours in conjunction.
ReplyDeleteThis open house sounds like it was fun for both you and the children. It is always nice for the kids to have a parent or both attend an open house event I know it was always important to my children when they had a special day at school. It is important I believe for the parents to be involved with the children and events through the schools. Thanks for sharing and hope the principal is able to retire on his own terms.
ReplyDeleteI remember the days of open houses with my daughter. I think she really enjoyed me being there and showing me what she had done during the school year.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I always have to run between classrooms when we visit the kid's school so we don't miss anything. Looks like it was a fun activity.
ReplyDeleteI love when parents have an active place in their children's education. Kudos to you!
ReplyDeleteI love attending open houses during my daughter's elementary school years. I wish they did them in middle school. It looks like an amazing day.
ReplyDeleteI fondly remember activities like this when my children were still young. My daughter and her brothers were in different schools so there was not much of a problem, unless of course, the activities fell on the same date! I hope whatever issue the school and its administration is going through will soon be resolved.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. I remember those good old days when my mom would come sit and observe the classes. I love the battling each other in math part. Very cool!
ReplyDeletei love that you are really giving your best and of course you time to attend on your children's school activities. It is one of the best way to let your kids know how you love them really!
ReplyDeleteI always loved it when my parents attended school activities. And I was like your daughter and got upset when my Mom missed something, LOL!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day! I love getting to spend time with my kids in their classrooms, it lets me see a different side of them. This seems like a great school!
ReplyDeleteYour husband is a good father :) I think getting involved in a classroom is very important!
